Job Title: Utility Engineer
Job description
- Engineer for Utilities and Equipment Reliability will provide
leadership and technical expertise for the efficient operation,
monitoring, assessment, and capitalization of all site utility and
mechanical systems.
- Leads site energy program, utilizes utility and reliability data to
identify and prioritize cost improvements to include business case
analysis.
- Will lead and implement small to large scale facility projects
including energy efficiency, associated infrastructure, and mechanical
and electrical system improvements.
- Routinely conducts system and equipment reliability assessments to
quantify utility and equipment performance. Lead development of energy
and facility reliability program owning and driving the metrics leading
to attainment of annual goals.
- Provides oversight of all associated utility consulting, construction, and contracted resources.
- Develops and implements best practices and procedures designed to
reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency of plant operations.
Day to Day Activities
- Serves as Site Energy Champion to manage the site energy demand and
spend in conjunction with Facility Operations and Environmental Teams.
Defines, communicates, and implements energy saving and conservation
processes and procedural enhancements to stationary equipment, HVAC,
electrical, and mechanical infrastructure.
- Responsible for the system reliability, regulatory compliance,
proactive maintenance optimization, and efficient operations of
compressed air generation and distribution, building automation system
operation and data utilization, electrical and gas utility
infrastructure, steam generation and distribution, chilled water
generation and distribution, RO water generation and distribution, and
solar energy operation.
- Defines, develops, and leads utility and infrastructure projects.
Follows established project management guidelines in documenting and
tracking project metrics. Energy project development, definition, and
implementation to deliver project timelines, spending, and results.
- Oversees the document system for retention of utility projects and associated facility engineering documents.
- Responsible for stationary equipment safety assessments, code
compliance, training programs, and mitigation plans for current facility
operations.
- Individual will ensure all safety and environmental code and local
requirements are incorporated from design through completion of projects
delivered to area of responsibility.
- Responsible for the content and updating of facility BCP planning and implementation – utilities and backup systems.
- Responsible for annual cost projections, budgets, sourcing, and
analysis of energy contracts, demand management programs, and rebate
programs.
- Responsible for the methods and standards for facility reliability
and energy management program to include metrics, improvement plan, and
prioritization to meet annual energy and cost goals.
- Forms and leads site team.
- Can design and provide solutions for facility infrastructure, equipment, and environmental control.
Working with Outside departments to Interface
- Demonstrated record of collaboration with internal departments, as
well as external engineering, equipment vendors and construction firms.
- Leads cross functional, cross site teams to achieve project goals
- Mentors others by sharing knowledge and expertise and providing feedback and guidance.
- Identifies ways to increase customer satisfaction.
- Establishes relationships and good communication channels with customers; documents agreements and commitments.
- Prepares written communication.
- Conveys information effectively through formal and informal
documents with team members, designers, technicians, and other
personnel, both internal and external to the Company, using appropriate
communication protocols.

Requirements
- Complies with all regulations and standards for quality,
Environmental, Health, Safety, and Energy (EHS&E) Global Policies,
Company Engineering Standards, and other governance areas as applicable.
- Ensures quality and effectiveness of assigned tasks and key project
results through sound design and project management processes.
- Has full awareness of the potential consequences (defects and failure modes) of design changes.
- Experienced with facility systems commissioning and compliance requirements.
- Performs tasks, such as writing Requests for Capital Expenditures (RCEs), safety / quality checklists, scope documents, etc.
- Resolves problems and crisis situations requiring fast, astute
decisions with rapid implementation by utilizing technical training and
/or experience.
- Certifications and training related to energy efficiency programs,
reliability programs, and/or certifications in facilities management a
plus.
- Professional Engineer license and associated certifications preferred.
Education And Experience bachelor’s Degree in
Engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or
equivalent technical experience plus demonstrated competence, with a
desired 5-12 years of significant engineering and/or operational
experience
